EMDR Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late 1980's, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) uses eye movements, taps, or tones, to help individuals reprocess traumatic memories. Unlike talk therapy, EMDR does not require clients to deeply analyze or even verbally share their experiences. Instead, it activates the brain's innate capacity to heal itself.

EMDR is based on the idea that traumatic memories are stored in the brain in a fragmented and unprocessed way. When these memories are triggered, they can cause intense emotional and physical distress, flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety. EMDR helps integrate what was once overwhelming and fragmented.

EMDR has been shown to be effective in the treatment of PTSD, anxiety, depression, phobias, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. EMDR is a safe and effective technique that can help people to heal from the symptoms of trauma.

I use EMDR in a gentle and fluid manner, which many individuals find to be meditative. EMDR transforms our relationship to our past. It brings us back to ourselves--not the self shaped by fear, but the one aligned with love, truth, and wholeness.
