What is Brainspotting? A Gentle, Mind-Body Therapy for Lasting Healing

If you’re seeking a therapy approach that goes beyond traditional talk therapy, you may have heard the term Brainspotting. But what is Brainspotting, and how can it help you process trauma, anxiety, or emotional blocks?

Brainspotting is a therapeutic method developed as an offshoot of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). While EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain process traumatic memories, Brainspotting focuses on eye positions—or “brainspots”—that correspond to where trauma or stress is held in the brain and body.

By locating and attending to these spots, the brain can naturally process and release unresolved emotions, often with profound and lasting results.

How Brainspotting Works

Brainspotting is a mind-body therapy, going far beyond talk therapy. It works on the principle that where you look affects how you feel. During a session, I guide you to find eye positions associated with emotional or physical distress. Once identified, your brain and body begin deep processing of unresolved trauma or stress.

Many clients experience relief from symptoms such as:

  • Anxiety and panic

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Chronic stress or overwhelm

  • Emotional blocks or performance challenges

Unlike traditional therapy, Brainspotting allows the body and mind to work together, helping you access emotions and memories that are often difficult to reach through words alone.

Gentle, Trauma-Informed Healing

As a Brainspotting therapist in Connecticut, I bring a gentle, trauma-informed approach to every session. My work is guided by safety, pacing, and respect for your unique emotional landscape. Sessions are never rushed or forced; instead, they support you in staying present with yourself while your brain naturally processes difficult experiences.

Integrating Brainspotting with Other Mind-Body Modalities

One of the strengths of my practice is my extensive training in multiple mind-body modalities. This allows me to blend Brainspotting organically with techniques such as EMDR, somatic techniques, mindfulness, and other gentle therapeutic approaches. The result is a comprehensive healing experience that goes beyond talk therapy, addressing both the mind and the body to produce meaningful, lasting results.

Who Can Benefit from Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is highly adaptable and can support anyone looking to process unresolved emotional or psychological issues. It is particularly effective for people who:

  • Have experienced trauma or abuse

  • Struggle with anxiety, depression, or stress

  • Feel “stuck” emotionally or in their personal growth

  • Have gained a lot of insight in talk therapy, but still feel things are unresolved
